(Note: This event has ended.) The march toward adult use cannabis legalization continues at the international, national, and state levels. More than 128 million people in the US have used marijuana. That’s more than half the US adult population who have used a federally illegal drug.
Proponents of legalization want to end the annual arrests of the nearly 600,000 US citizens, free up scarce police resources, and stop racial disparities in marijuana law enforcement. Missouri arrests for cannabis average 19.5K each year and 94% of those arrests are for possession only.
“Should Missouri legalize adult use of Marijuana?”
The Hon. Michael Wolff, Former Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice and Former Dean of the St. Louis University School of Law will address this question during the spring 2021 Missouri NORML Conference.
Missouri voters will soon have the opportunity to end marijuana prohibition through a comprehensive ballot initiative expected to appear on the November 8, 2022 ballot.
Advocates say ending marijuana prohibition could add billions to the national economy, create hundreds of thousand of jobs, and make marijuana safer through regulation and testing. Opponents say it will increase teen use, traffic accidents from marijuana-impaired drivers, workplace accidents, more hospital visits, and lost productivity.
