An initiative campaign to legalize adult use of cannabis in the city of St. Louis is now underway. A political action committee (PAC) is registered with the state of Missouri to place an initiative on the ballot in early 2019.
The PAC, Common Sense St. Louis (CSSL), seeks to allow possession of up to 2.0 ounces of cannabis and cultivation of up to six flowering cannabis plants in the city. The ballot initiative contains all the provisions of the recently defeated Board Bill 180 submitted by Alderwoman Megan Ellyia Green in 2017 for the 2018 legislative session.
Volunteers are needed to work at the polls and to collect signatures from city residents.
If you haven’t had the chance to collect signatures for legalizing cannabis, you can now join your fellow activists to pass an adult use cannabis bill.
The momentum for passing an adult use cannabis law in Missouri has never been greater. New Approach Missouri’s medical cannabis initiative has recently been certified by the Secretary of State and will appear as Question #2 on the November 6th election ballot.
A 2018 Quinnipiac University Poll indicates a 91% approval rate for medical marijuana. Missouri could become the 31st state to legalize medical marijuana in 2018.
Now running as a candidate for Board of Aldermen President, Green will resubmit BB180 for the next year’s legislative session. Common Sense St. Louis supports Green’s legislation, but will move ahead with the initiative to get this ballot question before voters.
There is aldermanic support for Alderwoman Green’s new 2019 BB180 legislation and it is expected to pass in a full session of the board of alderman. Based upon past experience, however, the possibility remains that it will not have the opportunity for a full-session vote and will again die in committee.
To ensure passage of BB180, Common Sense St. Louis will work at the grass roots level to put this question to voters at the ballot box. Your donations to Common Sense St. Louis will help bring adult use cannabis legalization to St. Louis.
