Fans of the local Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) television program Donnybrook, which airs on Thursday night on KETC Channel 9, were presented with compelling arguments on the Thursday, October 25th show to vote yes on Amendment 2.
The show’s commentators, Wendy Wiese, Bill McClellan, Alvin Reid and Ray Hartmann, were all enthusiastically in favor of Amendment 2.
Bill McClellan exclaimed that, “people must be careful and vote for Amendment 2,” because there are three different proposals. One (Amendment 3) is promoted by a lawyer in Springfield who wants to build a big institute to cure cancer, “and that’s a bad idea,” continued McClellan.
Ray Harmann says Amendment 2, “is reasonable, it creates a 4% tax which goes to veterans,” and he explained that it is modeled after the best practices of 30 other states who’ve already passed medicinal marijuana.
Provocateur, Charlie Brennan attempted to raise concerns about patients growing marijuana and asked Wendy Wiese, “would you want people growing marijuana in their backyards in Missouri?”
“I want cancer patients to have relief,” offered Wiese.
Alvin Reid had the best response for the night by adamantly exclaiming, “why don’t we just skip this on go on to the (full) legalization of marijuana.” Reid say it’s another example where Missouri seems to be always behind when other states have already voted for, and passed, medicinal marijuana “10, 15, 20 years ago.”
The medical marijuana conversation starts at 16:00 on the video.
